Travel/visa requirements

Visitors from most countries can enter Hong Kong without a visa for periods of seven to 180 days, depending on nationality. Check with the Hong Kong Immigration Department for details about visa requirements.

Lost or stolen items

Report a lost passport or wallet immediately to your nearest police station (call the Police Hotline on 999 for locations or browse their website to find a ‘Report Room’). Contact your country’s consulate to organize a replacement passport. In case of lost or stolen wallets, be sure to keep a separate record of your credit card numbers in advance of your visit. Notify your card issuers immediately and check with your credit card issuer or insurance company for interim assistance.

Electricity and voltage

Hong Kong’s standard voltage is 220 volts AC, 50Hz (with most hotel bathrooms also offering outlets for 100 volts). The city’s majority of electrical points take a three-pronged square plug (the same as the type used in the United Kingdom). Inexpensive adaptors are readily available from most convenience stores.
